Outreach for Youth
In our regular creative writing classes and camps for pre-teens, teens, and young adults, nearly 1,000 young people have explored their creativity in multiple literary genres far beyond the limitations of school classes, and were given the opportunity to perform or hear their peers share their work in spoken word programs, open mics, and readings attended by their families, local teens and others within the Muse writing community. The Teen Writers Fellowship is an expansion of this part of our program.
We also go into local schools and youth organizations for monthly outreach classes and creative writing activities, including literary arts programs in places where teens currently receive services such as afterschool programs, community centers and residential facilities.
We believe in the benefits of creative writing and expression, having witnessed young people who were struggling with myriad life problems blossom into writers who grew by telling their stories.
