Julia Lisa Ray
Originally from Flat Rock, North Carolina, I finished an undergraduate degree in English and secondary education at Appalachian State University in 1987 and stayed at ASU as a graduate assistant until 1989, completing a Master’s Degree in English with a concentration in community college and technical college teaching. I moved to Hampton Roads in 1989, and over the following years, taught at Commonwealth College, Old Dominion University, Christopher Newport University, and Thomas Nelson Community College. I taught at Thomas Nelson (now Virginia Peninsula CC) full-time from 2000-2021. I enjoyed teaching all levels of composition and rhetoric courses as well as American literature, film and literature, women's literature and science fiction and fantasy. I retired in 2021 and moved back to the mountains of North Carolina in 2021 to be nearer family. From 2013 to the present, I have self-published three urban fantasy novels through Amazon as J.L. Ray. I am currently working on the fourth of that series.
