Writing Engaging Opening Pages
Hooking your readers (or agents and editors) at the start is one of the most important parts of writing a novel. This workshop will cover what you need to accomplish in the first pages of your book, including the three most important elements your beginning lines, scenes, and chapter must include. The instructor will use examples from well-known published books to illustrate these principles and may invite participants to share their first pages for critique and discussion.
Please note: This class or event is hybrid. Some attendees will be in-person and some will attend online. If you plan to attend in-person, you must show proof of vaccination to enter our physical center (ages 12 and older). Please read all our re-opening guidelines and important information before you visit, and be aware that there may be a limited number of seats available. If you are participating online (using Zoom or a similar live platform), students or attendees should have a stable internet connection.
