Building Blocks for Playwriting
Why write plays? To understand and empathize with each other? To hear your ideas aloud and see them embodied? In this introduction to playwriting, we will ponder these questions as we go over foundational aspects of craft, including setting, character, plot, conflict/dramatic action, language, and dramaturgy. You will get a chance to write scenes and listen to each other’s work so that you can get started on a new play or generate scenes for one you’re already working on. No previous writing experience necessary, just an openness to baring your heart and looking at each other’s.
