The Ultra-Talk Poetry Workshop
Often you feel the sensation it’s not only completely natural to write lines in poems as if you’re seated next to a fun passenger through a long Amtrak tunnel ride (like weeks) and these seats are so comfy and roomy the both of you are moving mouths, actually speaking to one another. Most of your tangents aren’t even sliding into politics, and if the conversation tilts a little one-sided, it balances fast, sun is going down, wow it’s really getting good now (no phone signal). It may be necessary to write poems in this manner the rest of time because hey you employed the casual approach on several historic job interviews and look they hired you–why not try in literature? This advanced workshop will explore the Ultra-Talk Poem, from unbuttoned origins through post-post-post-post modern poets like David Kirby, Nikki Wallschlaeger, Sandra Simonds, Barbara Hamby, Mark Halliday, Denise Duhamel, you and I. Chat should be pretty easy, it’s just speech, right? It’s not exactly easy, though it may be prettier than we’ve ever heard.
