How to Invent or Reinvent Yourself as a Writer: The Role of Core Story

Writing is a never-ending process of invention and reinvention—your story and yourself. Sometimes, external circumstances or the author’s internal muse mandate a change in direction, a reinvention. Once you nail down your core story, you can choose where else to take it: new genre, different voice, unique characters, POVs, settings, plotlines, and other story elements. Whatever direction you choose, your core story will guide you through the process. Figuring out where your story belongs in both your body of work and the marketplace is critical to success. In this hands-on seminar, we will discuss why it’s important to understand the risks/benefits of taking your core story in a new, perhaps unfamiliar direction. Students can read from their current works-in-progress for feedback/advice from the instructors. Join NYT bestseller Jayne and published medical/psychological thriller author Mike to discover your core story and the dynamics of authoring in today’s evolving literary landscape.

Please note: This class or event is hybrid. Some attendees will be in-person and some will attend online. There may be a limited number of in-person seats available.
