Deconstructing Fantasy Tropes

Found families, enemies to lovers, forced proximity: In the last few years, writers have become much more open about celebrating the tropes that make up their stories. But what exactly is a trope? And how is it different from the much-feared cliche? This seminar will deep dive into using tropes effectively in your writing. These storytelling building blocks can be mixed, matched, and subverted to your heart’s content, helping you to tell fresh, engaging stories that readers love. Through class discussion and fun writing exercises, you’ll discover just how creative tropes can be!

Please note: This class or event is hybrid. Some attendees will be in-person and some will attend online. There may be a limited number of in-person seats available. If you are participating online (using Zoom or a similar live platform), students or attendees should have a stable internet connection.
