A Novel Over 20 Years in the Making
Norfolk, March 21, 2022: A Navy SEAL fulfills a dream with a little help from The Muse.
It was 2014 when David Cascio saw the bright yellow Muse flier pinned to a bulletin board in a Virginia Beach Panera.
“Ever since then, it’s been gangbusters,” Dave says while describing how he came to be a Muse student for 8 years.
Dave Cascio served this country for 20 years, spending most of that time as a Navy Seal. Finding the Muse introduced him to a new type of training he needed to complete something that had been rattling around his head for over 20 years: from early in his military service, Dave knew his experiences as a Seal needed to be a book. After his retirement from the Navy, it was only a matter of time before he began his training as a writer.
“I had the idea for this story when I was in the service,” Dave says. “The first chapter of FrogFlyer is based on an experience I had on a stalk for sniper training. There were insects everywhere, I never saw so many!”
Dave’s newly released Science Fiction thriller, FrogFlyer, was released on Amazon last month and The Muse was excited to host the virtual book launch and reading.
“The experience was surreal; it was strange talking about this book that I have been thinking about for so long. It is strange that the book is done, but it makes me happy that it is complete.”
Along with the satisfaction of completion came the rewarding experience of other people actually reading his book.
“My father-in-law, who was in black ops,” Dave says, “he was so excited about the details of the book, he couldn’t wait to tell me about a book that I wrote. It was so cool to make someone happy with my writing.”
It took 8 years of learning, writing, and re-writing for FrogFlyer to be published. The Muse is honored to be such a big part of that journey. Anyone who spends a little bit of time at The Muse has, no doubt, passed Dave in Writing Room #1 – where he has and will continue to make his dreams a reality.
