The Adult Creative Writing Camp is Friday--Register Now!

Each hour in this fun, day-long Friday “camp” for adult creative writers, we’ll explore different aspects of writing and the writing life. During parts of the day, all attendees will write together as well as enjoy camp-wide addresses and workshops by former Virginia Poet Laureate Tim Seibles and Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist Desiree Cooper. Plus 12 breakout sessions will allow you to explore craft, professional development, and/or fun. Topics will include the writers life, point of view, prompt writing, detective stories, word games, plotting, agents & publishers, flash fiction, Zentangle, writing about patients and medical care, the English language, and songwriting, among others. The camp will conclude with a 5 p.m. Writers Happy Hour, where you can mingle with campers as well as Muse students, teachers, and friends. This is a great chance for you to have fun with your words--both out loud and on paper. Come and express and rejuvenate yourself in a guided, friendly, and supportive environment. The Hampton Roads Writers Conference is live and in-person this year, September 22-24 in Virginia Beach. Now in its 14th year, the conference features 3 days of workshops, 2 best-selling keynoters (Edmund R. Schubert & Wendy H. Jones), 2 first-ten-lines critique sessions, 50+ workshops during 10 breakout sessions, ten-minute agent pitches, cash prize contests for short fiction, short nonfiction, and poetry, complimentary 90-minute cocktail social, 2-hour open mic. Tuition includes 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and a cocktail social (cash bar) with complimentary heavy hors d'oeuvres, and the opportunity to pitch to literary agents. We have an amazing Summer 2022 In-Person, Online, & Hybrid class, workshop, and seminar schedule that starts in June and runs through August. You can find the right class for you by genre or in a searchable calendar and register now. Tuition assistance and flexibility is always available if you need it. You'll find our introductory classes, workshops, and studios in Poetry, Fiction, Memoir & Creative Nonfiction, Screenwriting, Comics/Graphic Novels, Songwriting, as well as many great classes for Young Writers and Teens . Plus we have a great series of all-new craft, creativity, research, and professional development seminars. And the return of In-Person Camps for Youth, Teens, and Adults.

In-Person, Online, & Hybrid Classes

  • In In-person classes, everyone will meet at our physical center.
  • Hybrid classes are where it's your choice whether to attend In-Person or through Zoom each class meeting. We have installed an excellent hybrid system to ensure both In-Person and Zoom students have the same great experience. The instructor will host the class in a physical Muse classroom.
  • Online classes meet over Zoom; you can take them from anywhere.

Re-Opening_Covid_Guide
Due to updated CDC, state, and city guidance, The Muse has changed some policies in order to best protect our amazing community. When you visit, please abide by our guidelines.
  • The Muse Writers Center's physical space is open for people to write, meet others, and learn more about The Muse four days a week: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. See our Locations, Hours, & Directions page for more information.
  • You must be vaccinated (those 12 and older) to enter The Muse's physical space. You are no longer required to wear a mask, though it is encouraged.
  • The Muse has installed is installing an iWave-R air purification system that uses needlepoint bipolar ionization (NPBI) cold plasma technology to sanitize the air, killing viruses, bacteria, and mold.
