ODU LitFest: Opening Reception (with Reading by Elaine Fletcher Chapman & Greg Larson)
Join The Muse Writers Center and Old Dominion University as we gather for an opening reception for the 44th Annual ODU Literary Festival: Afterwards. Presenters, participants, and attendees of the festival along with students, teachers, and friends of The Muse and the ODU MFA in Creative Writing program are welcome to enjoy hors d’oeuveres and conversation (with a cash bar). A brief reading by Elaine Fletcher Chapman and Greg Larson will begin the reception. The event is free and open to the public.

The 44th Annual ODU Literary Festival: A Week of Events
Come to LitFest! The line-up of in-person and virtual events/readings features internationally recognized memoirists, poets, fiction writers, and dramatists, including Meredith Talusan, Dantiel W. Moniz, Tom Lin, Lisa Beech Hartz, Kelli Jo Ford, Kareem Fahmy, and Matt Bell. Plus a selection of readings from ODU MFA Creative Writing Program alumni Lynn Waltz, Greg Larson, and Amanda Galvan Huynh, and readings from ODU faculty members of the English Department: Sheri Reynolds, Benjamín Naka-Hasebe Kingsley, Elaine Fletcher Chapman, and Molly McCully Brown. The events are free and open to the public.

Patchwork Party: A Creative Play-Session for Writers, Artists and Musicians
In our modern world of social media and rapid sharing, it’s hard to avoid imposter syndrome and the feeling that our art is only valid once it’s been “liked” and commented on by the public. At Patchwork Party, we invite you to grab some simple art supplies, headphones, and notebook and give your internal and external critics the day off as we engage the spontaneous side of our creativity. How to Write a Play: The Basics of Dramatic Storytelling
The Muse and Norfolk Little Theatre are partnering to present a free 4-week introductory course on the art of playwriting. Following, there will be a staged reading for the final drafts with local actors with scripts in hand and some minimal costuming and blocking. The class will be taught by Jean Klein, an internationally produced playwright. Registration required.

- The Muse Writers Center's physical space is open for people to write, meet others, and learn more about The Muse four days a week: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. See our Locations, Hours, & Directions page for more information.
- You must be vaccinated (those 12 and older) to enter The Muse's physical space. You are required to wear a mask upon entering. Once inside, if you are in a room by yourself, you may remove your mask. But if two or more are gathered in one room or public space, you must wear a mask.
- The Muse has installed is installing an iWave-R air purification system that uses needlepoint bipolar ionization (NPBI) cold plasma technology to sanitize the air, killing viruses, bacteria, and mold.
