The astronomers at a Muse party in 2016.
Let’s celebrate a great year of great writing at The Muse’s annual Holiday party this coming Friday, December 13 from 5-9 p.m. We’ll have free festive refreshments and an open mic to begin the evening, followed by the Muse’s Neighborhood Jam at 7 p.m. Along with prize drawings, The Back Bay Astronomers will be set up outside with telescopes. Bring your friends, bring your family, bring your instruments and words, and come celebrate the holidays with us!
Gatherings and parties have been a staple of The Muse community since we began nearly 20 years ago. When we moved to West Ghent in 2007, our parties eventually spilled into the entire Chelsea neighborhood. We always had some sort of music refreshments, and over the years we’ve had open mics, improv, raffles, tables from authors, and much more. By the time we moved back to the Ghent Market Shops in 2016, more than a dozen other Chelsea businesses had joined in, making our party span five blocks.

The last Summer party at our old location in West Ghent/Chelsea in 2015.
Our grand opening party in January 2016 set the tone for our new space, with hundreds in attendance and readings and activities all day. We tried to host a summer and a winter party—and we opened up to our shopping center and added the astronomers. The pandemic kept us from gathering for a few years, but fortunately that’s now in our rearview.
This year, we hope that many of you in our community will join us. We host these parties not just because they are fun. They are! But they are a way for fellow writers to meet each other and make connections what will enrich our lives and our craft for years to come.
Bring something to read if you’d like—or an instrument to join in the jam. Bring friends and family. When you do come, please find me! I’d love to meet you and find out where your writing journey has taken you this year.
