Welcome to National Poetry Month!
Celebrate National Poetry Month with a blog series curated by The Muse Writers Center’s Head Librarian, Charles Rhodes. A poet, veteran, and former scientist, Charles took the long road to poetry—through the Air Force, a career in science, a layoff, and a leap of faith. Now, he’s channeling his passion for language into a series of thoughtful prompts, reflections, and poetry inspirations throughout April.
Plus, don’t miss his poetry book pick from The Muse Library here, and take advantage of our National Poetry Month celebration—50% off all poetry classes through April!

April 1:
Prompt – Write a love letter to an old flame in sonnet form. Any Sonnet form is good. So it doesn’t fall into the cliché or sappy, make sure the following words aren’t in the poem: love, passion, sweet, joy, trust, better. Also use the word knapsack. Keep it fun, keep it original. Enjoy!
From the Muse Collection: HOT SONNETS “offers proof positive that rumors of the death of the sonnet have been greatly exaggerated. In fact, in the warm and capable hands of these practitioners, it’s clear that the sonnet is still as relevant as a poem can be.
