Marilyn Barton

Marilyn has lived in Hampton Roads since 1984. She earned a bachelor of science in nursing from Georgetown University and worked as an RN in a wide variety of hospital settings: psych, critical care, ER, research, staff education, and quality.

Marilyn became a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor as community outreach and taught classes from 2012 to 2017 in Hampton Roads.

Following retirement from a thirty-five year career, she started writing stories from her perspective as a nurse. Twenty of these have been published in Pulse -- voices from the heart of medicine and Kevin.MD.com.

Marilyn developed an interest in the power of storytelling while working with Riverside Health System's annual nursing magazine in Newport News, VA. She then served as editor for a coffee table book, The Color of Their Eyes published in 2007.

For her family legacy, Marilyn created a website to honor her father and those who served aboard the USS Kendall C. Campbell during World War II @ http://mynarratives.org/

Marilyn is a member of Hampton Roads Writers and attends meetings with two local groups, Tidewater Writers and Virginia Beach Writers, for readings, critiques, and camaraderie.
