Originally from Flat Rock, North Carolina, Ray finished an undergraduate degree in English and secondary education at Appalachian State University in 1987 and stayed at ASU as a graduate assistant until 1989, completing a Master’s Degree in English with a concentration in community college and technical college teaching. She moved to Hampton Roads in 1989, and over the following years, taught at Commonwealth College, Old Dominion University, Christopher Newport University, and Thomas Nelson Community College. She has been with Thomas Nelson full-time since 2000, and enjoys teaching all levels of composition and rhetoric courses as well as American literature, film and literature, and science fiction and fantasy. She has self-published two urban fantasy novels through Amazon and is working on the third of that series.
