Program Feature: Youth Writing

The Muse is proud to offer several opportunities for children and teens to hone their unique writing voices and creativity! Register for one of our fall youth workshops: Young Writers Workshop, Teen Writers Workshop: Monday Evenings, & Teen Writers Multi-Group Workshop: Saturday Mornings!

Our youth workshops allow students to explore fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and more. Each meeting will feature different Teaching Artists (Rebekah Coxwell, Jeffrey Hecker, Remy Smidt, and more!) and will be focused on different genres, with creative exercises, prompts, and readings. Students can learn a new genre or sharpen your skills while working on something you are already writing and have ample time to share and comment on each other’s work. Plus, we’ll have a visit or two from our comic book writing teacher, Kristin Mehaffey, to work with visual stories!

Also, be on the lookout for the Teen Writers Fellowship application which will be released in October!

The Teen Fellows program is valued at about $2300. Students get paired with a mentor who is a published author and get a ticket to the Hampton Roads Writing Convention all for free while having the opportunity to build a community of like-minded peers who are also working on writing projects. Many of our fellows keep coming back until they graduate high school!
