Muse Youth Program Announces Summer Class Schedule

The Muse is excited to offer FREE creative writing classes for young writers and teens this summer!

We offer three levels of creating writing classes for young writers and teens, from beginner to advanced. All classes listed are in person or hybrid classes.

Young Writers Workshop

Join local songwriter Skye Zentz and Comic writer Kristin Mahaffey as they guide children ages 9-11 through the basics of creative writing in this multi-genre workshop.

The Young Writers Workshop explores a wide variety of genres and topics, including poetry, fiction, comics, and songwriting! During class, students engage their creative expression through various prompts, exercises, in-class writing sessions, and opportunities to share their work. All forms of creative writing are welcome. This course is open to all young writers, with or without any writing experience.

IN PERSON CLASS

Teen Writing Level 1

Teen Writing Level 1 explores the fundamentals of writing and encourages students to find their individual writing voice.

During class, students will explore their creative expression through unique prompts, exercises, in-class writing, and opportunities to share and discuss their work. The final class culminates in a live reading which friends and family are invited to attend.

IN PERSON CLASS

Teen Writing Level 2

Teen Writing Level 2 encourages students to expand their creative writing by challenging them to elevate their creative voices with new writing techniques.

During class, students learn in-depth literary craft techniques through lessons, exercises, and prompts. Popular topics include villain archetypes, magic systems, haiku poetry, and more! At the end of class, students explore these new techniques by writing and sharing their work.  This class is open to teens ages 12-17 who have completed the level one writing class.
