Writing Weird Worlds
Is that a hamster knocking at the door? Is that very old man with enormous wings angelic or just a nuisance? What will happen if your wife removes that ribbon tied around her neck? If these questions are of more interest to you than the answers, Writing Weird Worlds may be for you. In this one-day workshop, we’ll briefly survey the rich history of stories—fabulist, slipstream, and so much more— that play in the no-man’s land between quote-unquote literary realism and so-called genre fiction. Then we’ll have fun with some writing exercises designed to bring the weird in your writing to the forefront.
