Writing the Multilingual Poem

Do you speak more than one language? Did you grow up in a bilingual household? Have you come across a bilingual or multilingual poem and wondered how the poet achieved the final poetic form? Have you attempted to write a poem in multiple languages?

In this workshop, we will read and study the craft elements of multilingual poems from poets like William Carlos Williams to Ocean Vuong. Together, we will also discuss our positionality to English and non-English languages within the landscape of the United States, and the difference between heritage languages versus acquired languages. By the end of the class, we will have a working knowledge to discuss bilingual/multilingual poems and the tools needed to write our own.

Please note: This class or event will be held online (using Zoom or a similar live platform). To participate, students or attendees should have a stable internet connection. Class participants: you should have a computer or device with a webcam and microphone; and your Zoom link will be automatically sent to you after you register.
