Writing the Lyric Essay

In this three-session class, students will define, in their own words, what the lyric essay is to them through both practice and reading of the lyric essay. Texts will include The Lyric Essay as Resistance: Truth from the Margins by Zoe Bossiere and Erica Trabold and Crafting the Lyric Essay by Heidi Czerwiec, along with additional PDF handouts. Each session will be split into two sections: the first half devoted to discussing assigned texts, and the second half focused on writing, generating new work, and editing. The class will conclude with one to two workshop meetings, giving students the opportunity to share and refine their lyric essays.

Please note: This class or event is hybrid. Some attendees will be in-person and some will attend online. There may be a limited number of in-person seats available. If you are participating online (using Zoom or a similar live platform), students or attendees should have a stable internet connection. Class participants: you should have a computer or device with a webcam and microphone; and your Zoom link will be automatically sent to you after you register. Check your spam box if you don't see it.
