Writing Children’s Books
Do you have an idea for a children’s book? This fiction workshop will focus on children’s picture books, chapter books, and middle grade novels. Drawing on her experience as an agented and traditionally-published children’s book author, the instructor will offer advice on the choices that should be made on form, genre, age category, and point-of-view when writing children’s books. You will respond to prompts and write original picture books or chapters for book-length projects. You will have at least two to three opportunities to be critiqued during this course. This class is open to all writers who have read at least three middle grade novels, five chapter books, or ten picture books that were published in the last three years (title recommendations provided upon request). While you don’t need any prior experience writing for children, you should have some experience with writing fiction and critiquing in workshops.
