Writing Children’s Books

Do you have an idea for a children’s book? This fiction workshop will focus on children’s picture books, chapter books, and middle grade novels.  Our discussions will include the unique voice, character development, plot, and world building needed to write in these different age categories. You will actively write and revise original picture books or chapters for book-length projects and submit them for review. You will have at least two to three opportunities to be critiqued during this course.  This class is open to all writers who have read at least three middle grade novels, five chapter books, or ten picture books that were published in the last three years (title recommendations provided upon request). While you don’t need any prior experience writing for children, you should have some experience with writing fiction and critiquing in workshops.

Please note: This class or event will be held online (using Zoom or a similar live platform). To participate, students or attendees should have a stable internet connection. Class participants: you should have a computer or device with a webcam and microphone; and your Zoom link will be automatically sent to you after you register. Check your spam box if you don't see it.
