Writing at the Edge of Time
The US Global Change Research Program is preparing to publish the Fifth National Climate Assessment in fall 2023; UN Climate Talks have recently wrapped up for COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh. Such venues bring policymakers, international leaders, and activists together to look at the latest data on the global climate crisis and discuss commitments to climate action.
Meanwhile, what can we as individuals, as poets and artists, contribute? It is so important that we keep telling our stories, and actively imagining that better world we want to work for.
And so, in this generative writing workshop, we will read a curated selection of poems to help us think through and about the challenges, frustrations–sometimes despair, and hope as we live in this time that’s called the Anthropocene. Prompts and writing exercises will help inspire new work, with the hope that poets will also find ways to share this with others in their communities.
