(Un)usual Cathedrals: The Poetry of the Sacred in the Everyday & Ordinary
The poet Pablo Neruda is famous for his odes to the simplest of things—a lemon, a pair of socks, a tuna at the market. In everyday objects, the speaker in his poems finds wonders so infinite they must be holy. In this class, students will read and discuss poems that evoke such a strong sense of awe and be challenged to write their own poems in which the everyday and ordinary in their own worlds is transformed.
