The Wonderful World of Fiction
Fiction is a playground where anything is possible—whether it’s solving a crime, bending the laws of reality, or telling an entire story in just a few hundred words. In this multi-week workshop, we’ll explore a range of fiction styles and genres, from magical realism and mystery to flash fiction and more. We’ll ask questions like, “What even is magical realism?” and “How do I fit a twist ending into six pages?” Through readings from writers like Gabriel García Márquez, Karen Russell, Edgar Allan Poe, and Sarah Cortez, we’ll study how authors combine craft with imagination to build compelling stories. You’ll generate new work through creative exercises, refine your writing through peer feedback, and leave with a deeper understanding of how to make fiction—short or strange, moody or magical—your own.
