The Surrealist Prose Poem
Why is the prose poem often a vehicle for strangeness and absurdity? What makes the prose poem the perfect form for surrealist imaginative play? In this class, we’ll examine the prose poems of Russell Edson, Sawako Nakayasu, and Harryette Mullen, and explore how the surrealist prose poem destabilizes our conventional expectations. This is a generative class that includes discussion and a writing prompt.
