The Poetry of the Beatniks

In this two-session class, we’ll explore the bold, rebellious spirit of Beat Generation poets like Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and Diane di Prima. Through discussion, close reading, and creative exercises, students will examine the movement’s key themes—freedom, protest, spirituality, and spontaneity—and experiment with writing in a Beat-inspired style. Whether you’re new to the Beats or revisiting old favorites, this class offers a chance to connect with their raw, rhythmic approach to poetry and personal expression.

Please note: This class or event is hybrid. Some attendees will be in-person and some will attend online. There may be a limited number of in-person seats available. If you are participating online (using Zoom or a similar live platform), students or attendees should have a stable internet connection. Class participants: you should have a computer or device with a webcam and microphone; and your Zoom link will be automatically sent to you after you register. Check your spam box if you don't see it.
