The Memoir Workshop

This advanced workshop is for writers actively drafting or revising a full-length memoir manuscript. Each class will include craft discussions on issues pertinent to students’ work, such as structure, scene vs exposition, voice, and finding the story beneath the story. We will explore various narrative forms and craft techniques through the analysis of assigned weekly reading and discuss the real-world consequences and ethics of writing and publishing true-to-life stories. The majority of each class will be spent workshopping submitted writing. Students are expected to present a new or revised piece on their designated weeks and provide thoughtful, informed critiques for all fellow classmates. This class is an opportunity to draft and/or revise a full-length manuscript and address the craft problems that come up along the way. Writers will leave this class armed with the tools to transform previous and new work into a clear and compelling memoir of any length.

Please note: This class or event is hybrid. Some attendees will be in-person and some will attend online. Currently, you do not have to show proof of vaccination to attend events or visit our center.
