CANCELLED: Talk About It. Write About It.

Hello. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, as a precautionary measure the talk about it. Write about it. is cancelled. It will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Talk About it. Write About it.

With Mentally Healthy Norfolk and The Muse Writers Center

Join us at the Slover Library for an informative and open discussion to help us work to reduce the stigma around mental illness and substance abuse disorders.  Afterwards, The Muse Writers Center will help us write about the issues and personal stories we discussed and face every day.

Mentally Healthy Norfolk is a coalition of leaders representing public health, nonprofit, government, education, and faith communities in Norfolk.  We work together in hope, dialogue, and action to reduce the stigma around mental illness and substance abuse disorders.

Our mission is to create safe spaces throughout Norfolk where people feel ready and able to seek the mental health care they need when they need it.

Our vision is to make Norfolk a stigma-free community

Our core initiative is Talk About It Norfolk, an on-going campaign to bring conversations about mental health out of the shadows of stigma and into everyday life.  In the past, we have sponsored workshops and training for caregivers, service industry professionals, faith leaders, and other community members. In the spring of 2020, we are launching an effort to coordinate with businesses and other organizations – first in the Ghent area and later in other parts of the city – to distribute resource materials, provide training opportunities, and create safe spaces for conversations about mental health.  Learn more at talkaboutitnorfolk.com.
