Story v. Art: The Making of a Children’s Picture Book

In this special seminar, author Desiree Cooper and fabrication artist Bec Sloane will discuss the evolution of their children’s book, Nothing Special. A Booklist starred selection, Nothing Special combines a poignant intergenerational buddy story with stunning, 3-D art. The author and illustrator will talk about their collaboration and strategic decisions they made along the way and how answer questions about the author to illustrator relationship. This is a great opportunity for any soon-to-be children’s book author and/or illustrator.

NOTHING SPECIAL IS ONE OF THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY’S

10 BEST CHILDREN’S BOOKS OF 2022!

“An evocative picture book celebrating simple pleasures and family ties.” —Booklist, starred review

Also join Des and Bec for a special free live panel and discussion at The Muse later in the day!
