Songwriting 101

Songwriting 101 will equip you with the tools to unlock your creativity and approach songwriting in new and exciting ways. Through this class, you’ll discover effective methods to express yourself through music and build confidence in your songwriting abilities.Each session combines brief, engaging explanations of songwriting concepts with hands-on activities designed to spark your creativity. You’ll learn by analyzing songs that exemplify key ideas, then experimenting with those concepts in guided exercises tailored to your growth as a songwriter.
What You’ll Learn:

The Art of Melody:
Discover the essential yet often neglected elements of melody, including:
Rhythm: phrasing and form
Pitches: steps vs. skips, sequences vs. scalar
Motifs: expanding simple ideas into coherent, developed melodies
Contour: creating shape and flow in your melodies

Mastering Chord Progressions:
How to craft compelling chord progressions
Writing melodies that harmonize seamlessly
Creating unique progressions with advanced techniques like secondary dominants and substitution chords
