Ruthless, Radical Revision for Novelists

Ernest Hemmingway has said “The only kind of writing is rewriting,” and Michael Crichton noted “Books aren’t written – they’re rewritten.” Nearly every professional writer has their own version of this advice, so in this workshop, we’ll dive into the rewriting process to help you take your novel to the next level. First, we’ll discuss big picture issues by focusing on aspects of story and structure to understand what works, how to improve what doesn’t, and make sure it’s as strong as possible. Then, we’ll cover lower order issues and look at ways to elevate and refine style and prose by critiquing sample passages. Participants can expect to gain actionable advice and learn specific strategies to apply to their writing process, and there will be time for all participants to ask questions about the challenges they face in their own writing process.

Please note: This class or event is hybrid. Some attendees will be in-person and some will attend online. There may be a limited number of in-person seats available. If you are participating online (using Zoom or a similar live platform), students or attendees should have a stable internet connection. Class participants: you should have a computer or device with a webcam and microphone; and your Zoom link will be automatically sent to you after you register. Check your spam box if you don't see it.
