Plot Hospital: A Collective Workshop for Arranging, Sequencing, and Structuring

Got a story idea that’s flatlining? A manuscript in need of intensive care? Welcome to Plot Hospital, a hands-on, collaborative workshop designed to resuscitate and strengthen your narrative structure. Whether you’re a novelist, screenwriter, or storyteller of any kind, this workshop focuses on diagnosing plot weaknesses, stitching together disconnected scenes, and breathing new life into your story’s pacing and flow. Students will bring in an outline of their story or idea and a sample of a story draft – or even a kernel of an idea – and collaborate with classmates to “diagnose” and “treat” any plot, character arc, or beat-by-beat questions they have. Feedback can explore techniques for arranging and sequencing events to maximize impact, identifying and resolving structural challenges, and frameworks to develop satisfying arcs and subplots. By the end of workshop, students should leave with a clearer roadmap for crafting a cohesive, compelling narrative that keeps readers hooked from start to finish. No story will be left untreated!
