One-Page Story Games
Roleplaying games are a unique form of collaborative storytelling–but they don’t need to be complex. Like short fiction, sometimes the best stories are those that can be enjoyed in one sitting–and RPGs encourage a loose and lighthearted approach to your favorite genre. Learn to support your story concept with a simple game structure to create a fun and memorable storytelling experience to share with friends.
Some popular examples of 1-page RPGs include: Honey Heist (plan and execute an elaborate heist, which is difficult because you’re all bears); Lasers and Feelings (a loosely Star Trek inspired scenario); Pride and Extreme Prejudice (a tongue-in-cheek homage to both Jane Austen and mecha anime); The Witch is Dead (a murder mystery where you play as the dead witch’s familiars); Sexy Battle Wizards (the name says it all, really).
This 4-session class will guides you through creating a simple roleplaying game of your own in any genre (fantasy, sci-fi, horror, or retelling a favorite book or film). We will look at examples of popular 1-page story games for inspiration and play them in short segments. We’ll also learn concepts for quick and evocative character creation and world building, ideas for game rules using dice, and options for self-publishing and sharing your game!
