Mapmaking for Writers
Who doesn’t love cracking open a fantasy tome and finding a gorgeous, lavishly illustrated map of the novel’s fictional world emblazoned on the end pages? Maps and speculative fiction have long gone hand in hand, but mapmaking offers a unique view of your writing no matter what genre you’re writing in.
In this hands-on class, we’ll start by exploring how and why you might consider creating a map of your story’s world—and of your story itself. Then we’ll become amateur cartographers, utilizing both online tools and pen and paper to discover all the possibilities mapmaking offers writers.
Because this is an online class, make sure you have supplies handy during our session. At minimum, you’ll need blank paper, a pencil, and an eraser. However, feel free to bring in other supplies as well, such as markers, colored pens or pencils, a ruler, and so on.
Please note: This class or event will be held online (using Zoom or a similar live platform). To participate, students or attendees should have a stable internet connection. Class participants: you should have a computer or device with a webcam and microphone; and your Zoom link will be automatically sent to you after you register. Check your spam box if you don't see it.
