Let Your Story Shine: Avoiding Mistakes that Kill Your Prose

You may have a killer plot and amazing characters, but if your writing doesn’t match, you’ll have a hard time getting your work in front of readers. Agents and editors get thousands of submissions per year, and their careers depend on sorting the good writing from the bad. As a result, the vast majority of submissions are not read past the first few pages–if that far! So what is it that distinguishes the writing of a professional from one that needs more TLC than they can give? This seminar will address a number of factors that make your writing look unprofessional, from crutch phrases and filter words to unnecessary adverbs and telling rather than showing and more. Root out the weeds that are choking your prose and let your story shine!

Please note: This class or event will be held online (using Zoom or a similar live platform). To participate, students or attendees should have a stable internet connection. Class participants: you should have a computer or device with a webcam and microphone; and your Zoom link will be automatically sent to you after you register. Check your spam box if you don't see it.
