It’s All About You: An Introduction to Poetry Workshop

Poetry is a descriptive space. It’s for you to wonder why crying feels so good sometimes. It’s for you to describe how a child’s laughter can erase a bad day. Poetry is safety. It’s vulnerability. Poetry is about who you love, and what makes you smile. Poetry is invincibility, tragedy, beauty, strength, fragility. It’s contradiction. Poetry is You. This is YOUR time to learn more about yourself and your world through poetry. We will read reflective and observant works by Carl Sandberg, Rita Dove, Charles Wright, and Luisa Igloria. Selected poems will show you the fundamentals: line breaks, white space, rhythm, diction, imagery, etc. The best part? You will have workshopped poems of your own to kickstart a collection!

Dates:
  • April 23

The MuseTeacher: Alison Palmer

Prerequisite: Open to writers of all levels of experience
