How to Write Funny: A Prose Workshop
Humor on the page is a delicate flower, and there is nothing quite so awkward as watching it wilt. This interactive workshop will explore the basic elements that make a story (fiction or nonfiction) funny, including juxtaposition, irony, understatement, exaggeration, and voice. We will examine a few sterling examples of humor writing – both wry and bold – then pull out our pens and notebooks to try it for ourselves. We will laugh, too, along the way. For those bothered by delayed gratification, here’s a preview: The best humor sneaks up on you.
Please note: This class is an online class. To participate, students must have a stable internet connection with a computer or device with a webcam and microphone.
