In this seminar, we will read and take inspiration from mixed media poems by poets such as Nicole Sealey, Anne Cason, Jamila Woods, and Dave Bonta to create our own found and mixed media poems. We will get hands-on with transforming magazine and newspaper cutouts, as well as other found material scraps, into poetry. Students are encouraged to bring their own magazines, newspapers, and other paper scraps featuring text (letters, receipts, coupons, pamphlets, etc.), as well as documents and photographs they may be interested in (re)exploring in a poetic light.
