Many contemporary novels and short stories draw inspiration from Gothic literature. We will explore the monstrous and the sublime by reading such writers as Edgar Allan Poe, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Mary Shelley, Horacio Quiroga, Neil Gaiman, and Karen Russell. Discussions will include identifying Gothic characteristics and incorporating them in your own work in fresh ways. The class will consist of writing prompts, discussions, and workshops. The goal of this class is to write and workshop your own version of a Gothic short story.
Please note: This class is an online class. To participate, students must have a stable internet connection with a computer or device with a webcam and microphone.
