Getting Your Chapbook Ready: A How-To Seminar

Are you thinking of putting a chapbook together? If you have a good number of poems—say 20-30—that you’re pleased with, and have some of them published in literary journals, print or digital, this two-session workshop can help you achieve your goal. Or, maybe you’re still working toward the goal of 20+ poems but aren’t there yet. You’ll benefit from this workshop too.

Reviewing published chapbooks for insights and ideas, we’ll explore the mechanics of chapbook preparation, a history of the chapbook, the importance of revision and proper formatting, strategies for assembling and arranging your poems, selecting a title, the pros and cons of self-publishing, and more. This hands-on workshop will also discuss advice from a few book editors while we research chapbook publishers and contests.

Suzanne has published two chapbooks, Weather of the House (1994) and Hungry Foxes (2013). She also has two full-length collections, What a Light Thing, This Stone (1995) and Flying Yellow (Spring 2021). She’s an associate editor for the Sow’s Ear Poetry Review and was guest editor of the most recent issue. She has an editing practice and has helped several poets with their manuscripts before publication.

Please note: This class is an online class. To participate, students must have a stable internet connection with a computer or device with a webcam and microphone.
