Gallery Reception & Poetry Reading

VIEWS OF VIRGINIA, a reverse ekphrastic art & poetry exhibit curated by the Poetry Society of Virginia, will be showing at The Muse Writers Center from May 1st – July 31st, 2023. Join us at The Muse for a poetry reading and reception with the poets and artists of the exhibit on May 20th, 2023 from 1-5pm, and stop by anytime during open hours to view the exhibit while it is showing!

What does ‘ekphrastic’ mean? From the Greek ἔκφρασις, ekphrasis, meaning “description.” An ekphrastic poem is one based on a work of art, whether a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other work. In this case, this reverse ekphrastic exhibit began with a series of poems, to which visual artists were called to respond. Both the poems and the works of art they inspired — paintings, drawings, photographs, and even quilts — are on display at The Muse.

Poems from members of the Poetry Society of Virginia and students of the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, accompanied by art from local Virginia artists. Copyright belongs to each individual poet or artist. All rights reserved. 2023.
