Flash in the Mornings
For many writers, longer work like novels and essays might feel out of reach during busy seasons of life. This class session will explore the genre of ‘flash’ – brief fiction and creative non-fiction told in under 1000 words. These short short pieces are one of the literary world’s most exciting new directions, with many straddling the line between poetry and prose. In this session, you’ll learn the fundamentals of flash, outlets that seek out and celebrate works of varying short lengths (including The New York Times’ Tiny Love Stories and Brevity), prompts for your own work, and the big impact these small pieces can make.
