Fiction 3: Deeper into Voice & Revision

Building on the fundamentals from Fiction 1 and Fiction 2, Fiction 3 immerses new writers in the revision process to hone their voices and tell compelling stories. The class will follow a workshop format, with students sharing their work and critiquing other students’ work via written feedback and class discussion. We’ll dig into revision on a micro and macro level, exploring line-level details such as word choice and syntax as well as broader considerations. Alongside developing facility with revision and critique, we’ll do focused work on voice, examining excerpts and experimenting with new techniques through exercises and discussion. By the end of Fiction 3, students will be equipped to join the Muse’s fiction and creative nonfiction workshops–and to refine their ideas into complete and polished work.

Please note: This class or event is hybrid. Some attendees will be in-person and some will attend online. There may be a limited number of in-person seats available. If you are participating online (using Zoom or a similar live platform), students or attendees should have a stable internet connection. Class participants: you should have a computer or device with a webcam and microphone; and your Zoom link will be automatically sent to you after you register.
