Fear Beneath The Soil – Writing Folk Horror
Folk horror thrives where landscape, tradition, and belief collide. In this class, we’ll explore how isolated communities, forgotten rituals, old customs, and the land itself can create a sense of creeping dread. You’ll learn how to use folklore, rural settings, generational memory, and cultural tension to build stories where the horror feels ancient, inevitable, and deeply rooted in place. Through guided exercises, students will develop a folk horror story concept shaped by setting, tradition, and the unsettling idea that the land remembers.
