Essay Exploration

The essay is not just something you learned in school; it’s now a popular medium to blend personal experience with ideas, widely published in daily newspapers, magazines, and literary journals. This generative essay workshop will give you inspiration through readings of short essays by a diverse set of writers, writing prompts, and guided feedback to revise. Each meeting will focus on a form of essay – narrative essays based on memories; political or idea-based essays, such as op-eds; lyric-based essays that incorporate elements of poetry; braided essays that intertwine facts with personal experience; and hermit crab essays that take the form of another text, such as a recipe or instructions. The goal is to explore, have fun, and create a supportive, collaborative space for the writing of your life stories and ideas.
