“Views of Virginia” Gallery Reception & Poetry Reading

VIEWS OF VIRGINIA, a reverse-ekphrastic* art and poetry exhibit curated by the Poetry Society of Virginia, is currently on display at The Muse Writers Center through July 31st, 2023. Join us at The Muse for a free reading and gallery reception with the poets and artists featured in the exhibit! Light refreshments will be provided.

*What does ‘ekphrastic’ mean? From the Greek ἔκφρασις or ekphrasis, meaning ‘description.’ An ekphrastic poem is written based on or in response to another work of art, such as a painting, photograph, or sculpture. VIEWS OF VIRGINIA is a reverse ekphrastic project, beginning with a series of poems to which artists were called to respond. Both the poems and the artworks created in response — including photographs, paintings, drawings, and even quilts — are on display at The Muse. Stop by anytime during open hours to view the exhibit!

Poems from members of the Poetry Society of Virginia and students of the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, and art from local Virginia artists. Copyright belongs to each individual poet or artist. All rights reserved. 2023.
