Celebrating A Season of Caring
From the beginning of time, the spoken word ultimately gave way to those words being captured and saved. From the earliest cave etching, hieroglyphics, and the crudest drawings, we’ve been able to express our wildest dreams, concerns and celebrations.
“Writing is medicine. It is an appropriate antidote to injury. It is an appropriate companion for any difficult change”
-Julia Cameron
Unlocking what is in our hearts and minds with a goal of helping us to better connect, persuade or heal often doesn’t come easy. We believe that expressing yourself changes everything. Writing about thoughts and feelings can help with self-reflection, problem-solving, and gaining clarity.
Studies have shown that writing about traumatic experiences can improve physical health and immune system functioning. Unleashing the power of words can be healing for individuals who are not normally served or heard, including those living with challenges such as domestic trauma, loneliness, disability, homelessness, severe illness, bereavement, and loss, as well as youth in crisis, wounded veterans, and seniors living in memory care. We ‘re the only center in the nation to offer tuition assistance to anyone who wants to take a class but cannot afford one. Through your generosity we’re able to bring the literary arts to thousands across Coastal Virginia and around the world.
This is what we do every day, and each day we hear from a student whose life has been changed for the better through the ability to put their words and thoughts on paper.
We hope you’ll consider making a tax-deductible gift anytime between now and December 31st, 2024.
